Fall is Falling In Fast

It's been a while since I've posted here on the blog. Since we came back, we've participated in different library activities that seem to be funded either by the public library system itself or sponsors from family attractions such as the Science Museum Oklahoma. They all are high quality and range from the pre-school to the adult levels of interest. They cover topics from exploring the world of the Hobbit to learning about local cultures through art and literature.

School has also started up, increasing the workload while also adding a sense of rigidity and order to our daily lives. Day to day work is uneventful, while academics are rigorous but not overwhelming. Thanks to the efforts of administrators, I was able to drop one of five of my scheduled AP courses prior to the beginning of the school year, which was probably the difference that allows my studies to continue without swamping me.

The temperature has also been falling with regularity now. Daily highs now range in the 70s, with rare extremes in the high 60s and low 80s. Humidity also seems to be reduced, although I think that's an illusion provided by the falling temperatures.

Extracurriculars have also started, with the Canterbury Choral Society opening the season with Carmina Burana. They invited Canterbury Youth Chorus' Chorale and the Oklahoma City Philharmonic to share the stage with them, and it was quite the event. Also, the corporate rowing team for Boeing participated in the Oklahoma Regatta Festival.

Things appear to be quiet for the next couple of months. Just the regular daily activities for now. I'll post again when there's been something notable.

2013 Started Out With A Punch

No, not literally. But metaphorically? Yes.

School took over the majority of my time, hence why there has been no posts for ages. So, allow me to get you caught up... (click the read more link, there's a bunch of content that I don't want to slow you down with until you're ready to actually consume it)

a Walk in the City

As promised, here is the second post for today: an update on what we did in downtown OKC! Exploring the city for the second time since we've gotten here! What a surprise (especially since we aren't normally this proactive :P) to get to this point so quickly.

Yesterday, we participated in the Oklahoma City American Heart Association Heart Walk with Daddy's coworkers from Boeing. You can take a look at the pictures below:

It was quite an interesting experience, especially because of the unique ability to check out Bricktown and other areas on a 5K walk. I hope you enjoyed the photos. Anyway, we woke up around 6.30a and dragged our feet until we were truly awake. By 7.30a, we had parked in front of Daddy's coworker's house apartment "ridiculously-expensive-but-worth-it-townhouse-right-next-to-bricktown" (what she described it as) and walked a couple of blocks over to an IHOP where we had breakfast. (Dad tried to have breakfast with an executive and was disappointed when he found the doors to the offices of IHOP locked. He then realized that the restaurant doors were further down.)

About an hour later, we went back to his coworker's... (let's just call it a townhouse for short, shall we?) and met her. She gave us a tour of the townhouse, showing all its features, from a two car garage with an included 6 person in sardine configuration tornado shelter to the expansive bedrooms, one of which affords a view of the very top of the much-talked-about Devon Tower. I took a picture of it, you should find it at the very beginning of the photos...

We then proceeded to the walk, which was situated right next to the Redhawks Ballpark. After meeting up with the rest of the team, we then proceeded to explore the tents, and later walk. I won't bore you with all the details, but suffice it to say that it was hotter than we would like for a walk that was supposed to be in April.

Afterwards, we checked out Coach's Restaurant that was attached to the ballpark and had a small lunch. It was pretty good, but a bit pricy. Some might go over how sad it is that baseball fare has gone so upscale and so on and so forth, but I'm not into sports so I could really care less about that aspect. The interior of the restaurant was cool, it had wonderful sofas in the lobby, and comfortable chairs at the table, so we weren't in discomfort as we talked and winded down from the workout that we just did. Some of the members of the team claimed to be allergic to exercise, but we all had a good time.

We then walked back to our car and drove home... it was a nice experience, but we were all tired and drained, so a nap seemed like a good option.

Hope we satisfied some people out there that know how much we hate to explore but we did for their sakes anyway! Until the next time, this ends the episode of experiencing. Maybe next time, we won't focus on the city, hmmm.....

Experiencing Oklahoma! (on St. Patrick's Day)

Lots of fun today... with just Dad, Sis and me. Let me explain:

Mom got an invitation to a go-away brunch for a lady who is moving to California that goes to our church. Until the night before, she thought everyone was invited. Sadly, it was a ladies only party meaning no males or girls.

So, we had a day out on the town... downtown OKC.

First off, we stopped for breakfast at a popular place in the midwest US: Waffle House

Great meal, with only Dad taking a waffle, all of us took eggs in some form, with toast and bacon (sausage for Sis). We did take some pics, but I have no idea where her camera is, so you get to look at the exterior of the restaurant. Sorry.

After that, we went to the OKC St. Patrick's Day Parade... which dragged on for an hour and a half... It was okay, except for the duration of it. We saw people at the beginning of the parade come back at the fourtyfive minute mark walking towards the start line, which made no sense whatsoever. At any rate, you can take a look at the pictures and videos here: Go to Google+

Later, we visited the Downtown Library to check a few things. We parked a few blocks away, then walked to it. Right next to it was the most talked about building in metro OKC region: the Devon Tower.

It is pretty impressive, it being the tallest skyscraper in Oklahoma. Then we took a visit down to the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, which was letting everyone in for free to celebrate their 10th aniversary downtown. We got some pretty cool pics, I'll put a few down here: Go to Google+

House won't break ground until Monday or later... watch the weather, if it starts to rain, then it will get pushed until next week (sad, but...)
